Mangosteen: a natural dessert packed with antioxidants

The mangosteen is the most popular exotic fruit among fruit lovers. In Southeast Asia, where it's native, it's also known as the queen of fruits or the fruit of the gods. Even those who taste it for the first time describe it as one of the best fruits in the world, with its sweet, delicately tangy flavor comparable to a lemon and pineapple sorbet.

And if you think you're enjoying a lemon dessert, you're actually eating a fruit. What's more, the mangosteen is one of the richest fruits in antioxidants! So frankly, what more delicious way to boost your metabolism?

But if you really want to enjoy them, pay attention to freshness and cultivation quality.

At Jurassic Fruit, we only select mangosteen growers who cultivate on fertile soil and use no chemical treatments. To make sure of this, we personally visit the site and carry out regular laboratory analyses.

And to guarantee the highest possible level of freshness, we've set up a logistics system that allows you to receive your mangosteens an average of 5-6 days after harvesting (compared with several weeks with other sellers), avoiding any intermediaries.

Want to give it a try? Then make the most of the season and buy them online from Jurassic Fruit. You'll see, our mangosteen gives you a little vacation in the tropics and provides you with a wealth of phytonutrients. What's more, it's easy to eat and delicious plain or in a fruit salad.ย

Frequently asked questions about Mangosteen

There are several reasons why the mangosteen is a rather expensive exotic fruit.ย

  • It is a very demanding fruit in terms of climate. It only grows in ultra-tropical zones within 20ยฐ latitude of the equator. It is also difficult in terms of altitude, rainfall and humidity levels. In short, you can't grow it just anywhere!ย
  • A tree produces fruit after 6 to 8 years, and yields a good crop every 2nd or 3rd year.ย
  • It doesn't ripen after harvesting, and is fragile. To be good, mangosteen must be eaten fresh, 5 to 15 days after harvesting.ย
  • Our growers carry out a meticulous quality sorting and cleaning of each mangosteen individually. This is for 2 reasons:ย
    • the slightest bump or hard spot on the shell can be a sign of quality that will deteriorate rapidly, so the fruit must be discarded.
    • no fruit can travel from Asia to Europe with traces of insects. Mealybugs, ants (which love to nest under the sepals of the mangosteen) etc., so they must be removed from the fruit by cleaning with a brush and compressed air.

Now, in relation to the pleasure (it's considered one of the best fruits on earth) and the benefits (its famous xanthones, for example) it brings, the price of the mangosteen is fair, making it one of our best-selling fruits. What's more, by ordering our mangosteen in larger quantities (whole case), you benefit from a significant discount, enabling you to enjoy all its benefits at the lowest price.

The flesh of the mangosteen is sweet and melt-in-your-mouth, with a touch of brightness that's unmistakable. Some describe its taste as a blend of lychee, peach, strawberry and pineapple. It's one of the most popular exotic fruits.
You can eat it as soon as you receive it! It's picked just when it's ripe, because it doesn't ripen any more once harvested.
You can keep your mangosteens for up to a week in the fridge. But note that the sooner you eat them, the fresher and more delicious they will be. If you keep them too long, their shells may harden and the quality will deteriorate.
Open it by pressing it between your fingers to split the soft shell. You can also slit the soft shell with a knife (about 1 cm deep) all the way around, then bite directly into the white fleshy sections, or use a small spoon.
The mangosteen is delicious on its own. You can also add it to a fruit salad, sorbet or fruit juice. You can even add it to a savory salad for a sweet and sour note. If you have a dehydrator at home, you can also eat it dried, it's exquisite.
Mangosteen pits are edible, and you can munch on them with the surrounding white pulp if you like the nutty flavor.
Yes, but it's bitter. Better to remove it. It's sap from the tree that penetrates certain fruits.
In Thailand, the mangosteen ripens from May to September. Indonesia is a vast archipelago made up of numerous islands on either side of the equator. These islands have different seasons, enabling us to offer you Indonesian mangosteen all year round.
